In your local garden center, it’s on the shelf as Round Up. Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round Up, is in the news a lot lately. It is a weed killer used in farms and gardens, but is strictly prohibited in organic farming.

The Environmental Working Group released a second study finding unacceptable levels of glyphosate in oat-based cereals and nutrition bars. One oatmeal square product contained 2,837 ppb of glyphosate – nearly 18 times higher than the EWG says is healthy for children. And CNN’s report on the EWG study cited the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, which determined in 2015 that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans.” A groundskeeper and cancer patient in California recently won a large settlementagainst the makers of Round Up.

What to do?  When you say YES to organic, you’re choosing food produced without this herbicide. For a deep dive, read more here at The Organic Center.
