Fall is the most spectacular time of year at our Carmel Valley Farm Stand — partly because organic farmer and fairy dust sprinkler Janna Jo grows so many amazing varieties of heirloom pumpkins, squash, and gourds. And also because she and her sister Tami know a thing or two about how to turn these organic cucurbits (that’s the pumpkin family!) into slightly spooky jack-o-lanterns for Halloween as well as amazingly fun and festive decor.

There are plenty of great ideas for all kinds of squash — some you’ll carve and some you’ll just dress up. Some of the pumpkin carving tools you might not have thought about using include a power drill, a drywall saw, and some clay carving tools…wait till you see what they do with them. You’ll never go back to just using that pumpkin carving kit you got at the grocery store.

Because of COVID-19, we’re not hosting all the fall fun events that we usually do. But lucky for us (and you!) Janna Jo and Tami are sharing their creative crafty secrets just in time for you to make a real splash this Decorative Gourd Season.

And don’t waste those seeds! Roast ’em up with these spicy recipes. If you want to learn a little more about some of the exotic varieties Janna Jo grows, check out this post from last year.

You’ll find all of our fun and festive How To Videos with Janna Jo and Tami here and on our YouTube Channel in the Decorative Gourd Season playlist…
