We know, you’re thinking, “So? What does that mean for me? What does it mean at all?” Well, for one, it means we are holding ourselves to a higher standard – the B Corp Standard – that ensures we are not only succeeding economically, but that we are making positive contributions to the world in other ways, from our employees to our communities to our planet.
We love the B Corp tag line: People using business as a force for good™ because that’s what we’ve been doing since we first starting farming on 2½ acres way back in 1984. Our mission is to cultivate a healthier world through organic food and farming, and we’ve been working on that ever since day one:
“We are extremely proud to be a Certified B Corporation and the first among Salinas Valley Grower/Shippers,” said Earthbound Farm president Deverl Maserang. “It’s a reflection of our dedication to our mission, to our customers, to our communities, to our employees, and to the land that we’re the careful stewards of.”
To become B Corp Certified, companies must complete the B Impact Assessment and earn an audited minimum score of 80 out of 200 possible points. Companies must re-certify every two years. Being a B Corp tells people that the company that is Certified meets rigorous standards of verified performance, transparency and accountability and continuously strive to get better. It’s a way of doing business that’s better for workers, communities, the environment.
