When the lady in red crosses a verdant field of or When the lady in red crosses a verdant field of organic romaine, you grab the shot. With the rolling hills in the background, this could only be our beloved Salinas Valley, where we've transitioned thousands of acres to organic since we first started farming the first week of July in 1984.

The classic American sandwich is even tastier in s The classic American sandwich is even tastier in salad form and the perfect dish for your #FourthOfJuly celebrations. This recipe makes more dressing than you’ll need for the BLT Salad, but it keeps for at least a week and it’s not only a salad dressing—it’s a great dip for any crispy vegetable or crudité platter!

Avocado Ranch:
½ cup mayonnaise
½ cup sour cream
½ Hass avocado, peeled, pitted and cut into 4 pieces
Juice of ½ lemon
½-¾ tsp garlic powder
¼ cup buttermilk or milk (for thinning, you may need more)
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Salad:
1 bag Organic Romaine Hearts (stems trimmed, heads halved lengthwise or quartered if large)
24 cherry tomatoes halved
Homemade croutons or store bought
6 slices bacon
Roquefort or other blue cheese, crumbled
Salt and freshly ground pepper

In a food processor, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, avocado, lemon juice, garlic powder, and ¼ cup of buttermilk. Process until very smooth. Add a bit more buttermilk if you like a looser dressing. Season with salt and pepper.

Rinse the romaine and pat dry. Arrange the halved romaine heads on plates or a platter. Drizzle with the dressing and top with the cherry tomatoes, croutons, bacon, and blue cheese. Season with salt and pepper and serve.
We build populations of beneficial insects by plan We build populations of beneficial insects by planting borders around our fields or rows through our fields with “host crops,” flowering plants that the good bugs like to make their homes in.

We generally use plants such as yarrow, coriander, baby’s breath, California poppy, bachelor buttons, cosmos, nigella, and alyssum.

Oh sure, we do feel a little bad calling the pest insects “bag bugs.” Nature made them that way. But they are bad for our crops…and good food for the “good bugs.”
